The Fashion Show

It was inevitable that I would write about Sex and the City, one of the most influential shows, fashion wise. I began to watch this show in college, since it started airing on TBS every Tuesday. They were the highly edited versions; nevertheless, I was hooked. The show is known for the writing and fashion, the wit and humor. If you haven't seen this show yet and only view it as a show about 4 whores in New York, boy, are you sadly mistaken. Now owning all the seasons, and having seen each of the 94 episodes countless times, the show always seems fresh and full of new ideas. That can also be said about the fashion. Watching it today, on mute maybe, you would never be able to tell that this show took place from 1998-2004. Mind you, this does take place in New York, so clothing, regardless of what time period it represents, always looks current. That was the goal of Costume Designer, Patricia Field.

Now, each of the female characters has a different way of dressing, but they all dress like New York women. They are all in their thirties/forties, and know how to dress properly. Charlotte is classic Americana, Samantha is vividly sexual and Miranda is sophisticated homebody.

Then, you have Carrie. Naturally, she became my favorite character to watch for her fashion choices, and I am sure there are a bajillion viewers who would say the same thing. Carrie is a fashoinista, and so is Sarah Jessica Parker; and because of Parker, she reflected her most outlandish get-ups through Carrie. So from time to time, through this blog, since I watch S&tC so often, I will be posting an excerpt about one of my favorite episodes or seasons or outfits that are just smart and ground breaking. Worn by the lovely Carrie Bradshaw, of course. Take the image above, this was episode 10, season 3, All or Nothing. She has re-worn a yellow prom dress accompanied by the Princess Leia hair buns. Need I say more, other than she looks adorable :)
