Just a Thought

This morning, after a wee bit of fun ;) I lie awake thinking hard, for some odd reason, about personal style. For a while now, my main obsession has been aimed at Alexa Chung's style...you all remember her? One of my fashion crushes. Any who, as much as I love her style and wish I could pick up on it, I tried to imagine myself in one of her outfits.......

Then I realized: that is not my style.

As easy as it is to be inspired or, dare I say, copy someones individual style, it would never be your own. Once you replace your head with, let's say, Alexa Chung's, you may realize that your style should be something else. And maybe you could never do such a thing. You could imagine yourself in a certain dress or with a certain hairstyle but you alone will make it your own. So, maybe what I love about Alexa Chung is the pieces she wears? hmm. No Clue. All I know is I want to be content with my wardrobe, because deep down I bought those certain pieces and arranged them on myself a certain way because that is my style.

I only say this on account of things like skinny jeans. Knowing that they are fully in style for pretty much every woman in America, they are only being worn because they are the trend. If only women would think about what kind of jeans they actually like! Or which ones actually make them look amazing! Not to make an insult on women with a little meat on them, but skinny jeans are working against you. That's beside the point. All I am saying is, pay attention to you, and what you like and what works for you. Think about what people compliment you on; what color really brings out your eyes or what shoes make your legs look long. There is no way everyone was feeling Uggs, because unless they weren't a trend, they would not be accepted ever!!!!!!!!! They are hideous, especially with skirts (for the love of GOD, ladies, please stop that) but since they were trendy, everyone wore them. I am getting into a whole other tangent..... just because it is in style does not mean it will suit you. In fact, I would like to take this opportunity to say, "Fuck trends!" Do what you want; wear it in your own way; add your 'ness' to the ensemble. I liked wearing earrings for quite some time (not so much at the moment) but to add my Kat'ness to it, I wore two different ones, with some form of symmetry to it. And I did that because I loved it! Wearing the same earrings didn't feel like my style. Well, God Speed. We are free to be you and me! Is that how the saying goes?
