Tiny Dancer

Talk about one of the most influential films on my style and overall persona….whatever that is. It took last night’s particular viewing (with someone who had never seen it) of Almost Famous to realize all of the fashion, music and personalities I tried to mix into…..me?

Tackle Box
This wonderful accessory was carried by the lovely Penny Lane played by Kate Hudson. During High School, I searched every thrift store in San Diego, and in Oceanside to find myself a tackle box. Which I did, eventually….and I carried that thing every where.

Fur Hat
Also worn by Penny Lane, I found one at an Antique store in Baltimore and instantly bought it on account of its likeness to the one in Almost Famous.

Rose Tinted Heart Glasses

Of course I bought these when I saw them at the Buffalo Exchange in Hillcrest. Very Hippie’ish.

Almost Famous Soundtrack
Safe to say, I downloaded each song at different times over the span of 8 years. What a wonderful soundtrack, and the first film to feature music by Led Zeppelin; the movie closes with my favorite song by the legendary band: “Tangerine”. Let’s not forget this film also mainstreamed the lesser known, “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John. I was introduced to David Bowie, Yes, Simon and Garfunkel and many other amazing artists. Thank you Cameron Crowe.

Penny Lane
“Like the song?”…….Yes, I used this name as my alias on Facebook. When I signed up in 2004, I did it on a whim. I never thought to myself that the character was someone I always wanted to be like, carefree and amiable with the world. I think perhaps choosing that alias absentmindedly, was me subconsciously, wanting to be Penny Lane. But, she’s retired ;)
