As a continuation from the last post, I have to clear something up. The ivy League Look and Athletic Look are like Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins: pretty frickin close! Each one has inspired the other and upon further reading of my new favorite Fashion reference, the athletic look has some mild differences to pattern and layering.
When you think of the athletic look, usually you think of a gentleman wearing basketball shorts and a hoodie with some basketball shoes accompanied by a cap with a favorite team on it. That look was well inspired by the athletes of Ivy League schools. It is more like: I look fashionable and I can play some Golf in the same outfit! So really, the athletic look that started out, the one that is easily confused with the Ivy League look is what Andy Bernard from The Office can be described as.
