Curves

Can anyone tell me what is so offensive about the word "curvy"?

Having run into this issue on another blog, The Sartorialist, he was maimed for calling a girl curvy! And by that he meant, "I am around women all day, photographing ones that resemble models. So when I see a woman with some definition, 'tis refreshing!" He can call her curvy, because what he photographs all day, has no curves. Deep down, as a straight male, he was probably jumping for joy! Let's not forget one of the world's most desirable women was Marilyn Monroe! Anyway, I just want to know what you all think about that word? I know it mostly pertains to women but men, give me some insight, please.

Also, is the word skinny offensive? (I think it's not as flattering as some people use it.)
